Classification of Books, in terms of its purpose
Based on the purpose for which they have been written, the books on Satpanth, including Pirana Satpanth can be broadly classified into following categories.
Conversion Texts
Dashavatar and Mulbandh books. The purpose is to brainwash and make the followers believe that Satpanth is the true Sanatan religion of the Kaliyuga, the present era. Further, that the original Sanatan Dharma has been declared void at the begining of the Kaliyuga.
Attracting Hindus to Satpanth
Miracle stories, Songs and Bhajans with Hindu flavour.
Taqiyya
Take out of context small bits and pieces of hindu shlokas, mantra etc taken from various Hindu scriptures and stitched together to serve or benefit the purpose of Satpanth. Confusion and brainwashing techniques are used.
Retention of followers
Texts that constantly criticise other religions and questions their beliefs, rituals and practices, with the aim to ridicule other religions and show Satpanth as superior to all of them.
Conversion Text – Dashavatar
The Dashavatar book is the “religious conversion text” and the three mostly used avatars for brainwashing are;
1) Kirshna Avatar -> Corrupted the hearts
2) Budha Avatar – > Corrupted the minds
3) Nishkalanki Avatar / Kalki Avatar -> Promised Incentives and Induced people who follow Satpanth. In comparison, non-Satpanthis were threatened with chilling dire consequences.
Kuran / Quran is represented as the last Veda, the real Atharva Veda, followed by Satpanthis.
Satpanth was presented as True Sanatan Religion of the Kaliyuga i.e., the present times.
While the actual (true) Sanatan religion was declared as null and void in Kaliyuga.
Conversion Text – Mulband
Mulband / Mulbandh is a book claimed to be the source of all Satpanth’s religious books.
But this book is never published. It is not made available to general public. Normal people are not aware of its contents.
The reason for this maintaining this kind of secrecy is that the reason that, in terms of taqiyya, whenever the books of Satpanth have to be manipulated and when they have to do things like changing the name of Imamshah to Hanstej, the justification given is that Mulband says so.
Conspiracy is so deep rooted that, if Mulband is silent or speaks otherwise, manipulation by way of physical changes are made by rewriting it, thus creating a fake Mulband.
After huge difficulty, we were able to get a Original / True copy of Mulband and a Fake copy of Mulband too.
To begin with…
Study of Satpanth viz., Pirana Satpanth can be best started with the following books.
- Collectanea –by Wladmir Ivanow
This book explains in detail how Satpanth was formed and what were its objectives. It explains how taqiyya, the strategy to convert was used by its preachers. It also explains religious figures, especially 10th Avatar of Hindu God Vishnu as Maula Ali. - The Sect of Imamshah -by Wladmir Ivanow
This is an article publised by respected journal which covers topics mainly related the Pirana Satpanth. It covers the geneology of Imamshah and history of Pirana Satpanth sect. - Satya Prakash -by Real Patidar
This book summarizes point-by-point every important aspect of Satpanth and Pirana Satpanth. It is basically a powerpoint slide converted into a book. However, it is that one handy reference book, which answers almost all points on Satpanth. This book is available in English, Gujarati and Hindu languages. - Gharwaapsi -by CA Chandrakant Patel
This book provides a comprehensive analysis of the strategies historically employed by Satpanth in the context of religious conversion. It critically examines how these methods were designed not merely to persuade, but to subtly influence and mislead sections of the Hindu community.
Drawing on a well-documented and extensively referenced narrative, the work presents the real-life experiences of the ex-Satpanth (or ex-Muslim) community—many of whom have, over time, reverted to Hinduism. It offers a detailed account of each phase of this complex journey: from the initial conversion from Hinduism to Islam, and subsequently, the process of returning to Hinduism.
In doing so, the book also explores the broader social context, highlighting the challenges, resistance, and societal dynamics encountered at each stage. Spanning nearly four centuries, it sheds light on a rare and significant historical phenomenon—the large-scale reversion of an entire community—and the struggles associated with it.
Gharwaapsi book is available in Gujarati, Hindi and English (AI translated) online version only.

Court Records
This section is about the famous judgements of the court.
The Aga Khan case of Bombay High Court, in the year 1866 is very important. The main crux of the matter before the court was that it had to decide whether Satpanth is a Hindu sect or an Ismaili Sect. The Bombay high court examines the Dashavatar book written by Imamshah (a.k.a. Hanstej), and decides that even though there are Hindu gods are venerated in the book, but following the use of taqiyya, they are only for attracting Hindus towards Satpanth religion. Whereas the main avatar, so called Nishkalanki Avatar (a.k.a. Kalki Avatar) is none other than Maula Ali, the cousin of Prophet Muhammad. Hence Satpanth religion is not a Hindu religion, but Shia Ismaili religion and Aga Khan is its religious head.
Another case of Devchand Totaram Kirange, again of Bombay High Court in the year 1935, is also very important. It covers the topic of the community affairs related to Satpanth.

Documents from Hindu and Islam -about Satpanth
This section deals with what Hinduism and Islam has to say about Satpanth.
The highest religious authority in Hinduism, H.H. Shankaracharya-jis of all the four Piths in India have said, in writing, that Satpanth is NOT a Hindu sect. Other Sadhus and religious organisations too have made similar statements.
Some Islamic records share the Conversion Method (Formula) adopted by Pir Sadruddin, the grand father of Imamshah to convert Hindus to Muslims. Even today, this formula is being followed in illegal religious conversions, across India.
The official order from Aurangzeb, giving grants and supporting Pirana Satpanth, can also be seen.

Books by Intellectuals
Intellectuals carry on and build further upon what researchers generally stop at. Intellectuals generally have that ground level touch which researcher might not have.
Normally the research work started in university to get the degree, ends up as a good valuable book. Years of hard work and dedication brings out the best inside stories by way of books from intellectuals.
One such intellectual is Dominique Sila Khan. She has done exceptional work with respect to Pirana Satpanth. Other intellectuals like Farhad Daftary, Gulshan Khakhee, Dr. Navinchandra A Acharya, M S Commissariat, Tazim R Kassam & Francoise Mallison, Ishtiaq Hussain Qureshi, Azim Nanji etc too have done very good work in this field.
They have explained the intricacies of play of taqiyya and its bearing on spread of Satpanth in a very easy language.

Ex-Satpanthi Community
Kutch Kadva Patidar Sanatan Samaj is the biggest known ex-satpanthi community. Its central organisation is called Shri Akhil Bharatiya Kutch Kadva Patidar Samaj and its website is abkkpsamaj.org.
This is perhaps the largest ex-muslim community, which has followed and practices Satpanth, a branch of Islam for more than 400 years. It was about 100 years from now that there was a religious uprising which turned into a social revolution.
It is the only known Hindu community, which has fought against Islam and reverted back to Sanatan Hindu religion by its own efforts. Today about 95% of erstwhile Kutch Kadva Patidar community as returned to Hinduism. About 5% still follow sect known by various names like Satpanth, Pirana Satpanth, Gupt Panth, Imamshahi, etc., which essentially is the name of same Pirana Satpanth sect, a branch of Nizari, Ismaili, Shia, Islam religion.
This ex-satpanthi, you may call it ex-muslim community, has its struggle and history well documented. Its history is rich. It has explains how their forefathers were deceived to follow Satpanth by making them believe (brainwash) that Satpanth is the true Sanatan Hindu religion of Kaliyuga. Further that the normal Sanatanis are following a religion which has been declared void/withdrawn by the God at the beginning of the Kaliyuga, the present era.
